Punjab Police Intelligence Operator Jobs 2026 (BS-7): Upcoming Special Branch Posts, Eligibility and Latest Update

Last updated · By Faaiz Mahmood

The Punjab government has approved new recruitment of Intelligence Operators (BS-7) for the Special Branch of Punjab Police. The advertisement has not been published yet. So there is nothing to apply for today, but there is enough information to start preparing, and that matters because this recruitment includes a running test as well as a written test.

This guide covers the latest update, how many posts are expected, who will conduct the recruitment, the eligibility and selection process from the last advertisement, and how to prepare while you wait.

Latest update (October 2026)

On 19 and 20 October 2026, ProPakistani and Daily Times reported that the Punjab government had approved the recruitment of Intelligence Operators (BS-7) in the Special Branch. According to these reports:

  • The Special Branch first asked to fill 113 vacant Intelligence Operator posts.
  • The Punjab Finance Department recommended hiring only 61, because of long-term salary and pension costs. The Chief Secretary supported this.
  • Filling the posts needed a relaxation of the current ban on new recruitment.
  • The Punjab cabinet approved the proposal through circulation. 24 News gives the date as 16 September 2026.

The reports did not confirm whether the final approval is for 61 or 113 posts, and they gave no dates, eligibility details or application schedule.

Status as of 29 October 2026: approved, not yet advertised. No application form has been released. Any page or post asking you to apply or pay a fee right now is not from the Special Branch.

How many posts?

The likely number is 61, with 113 as the upper figure, until the advertisement settles it.

For context, Punjab Police's Statutory Annual Report 2024-25 lists 1,000 sanctioned Intelligence Operator (BS-7) posts, of which 909 were filled and 91 were vacant at the time of the report. The previous recruitment, advertised in December 2023, was for 225 posts.

This round is much smaller than the 2023 one. Expect strong competition for every seat, especially since there is no regular yearly intake for this post.

Is this a PPSC job?

Probably not, and this is a common mix-up.

Many social media pages are calling this "PPSC Intelligence Operator jobs". That is likely because PPSC recently advertised 30 Intelligence Officer (BS-14) posts for the same Special Branch. The two posts are different.

The rules for these posts are set out in the Punjab Police, Special Branch (Intelligence Cadre) Service Rules 2020. A 2023 amendment to those rules, published in the Punjab Gazette on 10 August 2023, says:

  • Intelligence Officer (BS-14) is recruited through the Commission (PPSC).
  • Intelligence Operator (BS-7) is recruited through a Recruitment Board.

The December 2023 Intelligence Operator recruitment followed this pattern. The Special Branch published the advertisement itself, and applications went to its regional offices, not to PPSC. Unless the rules change, expect the 2026 advertisement to come from the Special Branch and Punjab Police as well. Check the Punjab Police website (punjabpolice.gov.pk), where the last recruitment was posted.

Eligibility: what the last advertisement required

The 2026 advertisement is not out yet, so the details below are from the December 2023 advertisement for the same post. Service rules for a post rarely change between rounds, but always check the new advertisement before you apply.

RequirementDecember 2023 advertisement
PostIntelligence Operator (BS-07), Intelligence Cadre, Special Branch Punjab
QualificationIntermediate or equivalent, at least second division, from a recognised board
Age18 to 25 years
Age relaxationNone in the upper age limit; age counted up to the closing date
DomicilePunjab (all districts)
MeritOpen merit at Punjab level
Quotas15% for women, 5% for minorities
Job typeContract for 3 years; may be regularised later on satisfactory performance, under the rules in force
PostingAnywhere in Special Branch Punjab
TransferAppointment is for the Special Branch intelligence cadre only, not transferable to other police units or departments

Two points that catch many candidates:

  1. No upper age relaxation. In 2023 the advertisement said clearly that no relaxation of any kind would be given in the upper age limit. If you are close to 25, check your exact age on the closing date the moment the advertisement appears. If this rule is repeated, being even one day over the limit will make you ineligible.
  2. Second division is required. Third division intermediate did not qualify.

Selection process, step by step

In 2023, a candidate had to clear every stage below. Failing any one stage meant no appointment.

  1. Application scrutiny. Eligible candidates were listed on the Punjab Police website and at Special Branch offices.
  2. Endurance test (physical). A timed one-mile run. Candidates could appeal against the result to an Endurance Test Review Committee.
  3. Written test. Held at regional level for those who passed the endurance test.
  4. Interview. Candidates who passed the written test were called in the ratio of 3 candidates per post.
  5. Psychological assessment. Candidates who passed the interview went through a psychological test. In the 2023 round, Punjab Police published a list of 13 candidates who did not make the final list: 11 were not recommended by the psychologists and 2 were absent. This stage is a real filter, not a formality.
  6. Final merit lists. Successful candidates were published separately for open merit, women quota and minority quota.

Candidates also had to submit an affidavit on Rs. 100 stamp paper declaring they had no criminal case (FIR) against them. No TA or DA was paid for attending tests or interviews.

The endurance test: 1 mile in 7 or 10 minutes

The 2023 advertisement set this standard:

CandidatesDistanceTime limit
Male1 mile (about 1.6 km)7 minutes
Female1 mile (about 1.6 km)10 minutes

The 2023 advertisement did not list height or chest measurements for this post. The running test was the only physical requirement.

What the pace means:

  • 7 minutes for a mile is about 4 minutes 20 seconds per kilometre. That is a steady run, not a jog. Most people who do not run regularly cannot hold this pace for 1.6 km without training.
  • 10 minutes for a mile is about 6 minutes 15 seconds per kilometre. This is easier, but many women candidates who have never trained still find it hard on test day.

A simple 6-week running plan. Train 4 days a week and rest in between.

WeekWhat to do
1Walk 5 minutes, then alternate 1 minute of running and 1 minute of walking for 20 minutes
2Run 2 minutes, walk 1 minute, for 25 minutes
3Run 1 km without stopping at any pace. Once a week, time a full 1.6 km
44 rounds of 400 m at target pace, with 2 minutes of walking between rounds
53 rounds of 800 m at target pace, plus one timed 1.6 km run each week
6Two easy runs and one timed 1.6 km run. Rest for 2 days before the test

Practise on the same kind of ground as the test if you can, usually a track or a police ground. Wear proper running shoes. If you have a health condition, check with a doctor before you start.

Written test syllabus

The 2023 advertisement listed three areas for the written test:

  1. General knowledge: Pakistan affairs, Islamiat, current affairs and everyday science
  2. Quantitative and computer aptitude: including MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
  3. Urdu and English language comprehension

The advertisement did not state the total marks, the number of questions or the time allowed. If the 2026 advertisement gives these details, follow them.

What to study in each area:

Pakistan affairs: the Pakistan Movement (1906 to 1947), the Lahore Resolution, the 1973 Constitution and its key amendments, provinces and capitals, rivers, dams and mountain peaks, and Punjab's districts and divisions.

Islamiat: the five pillars, basic facts about the Quran, major events from the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the four Rightly Guided Caliphs, and the basic rules of Namaz, Zakat, Roza and Hajj.

Current affairs: Pakistan and Punjab news from the last 6 to 12 months, important appointments, major government schemes, and big international events. Read a newspaper daily and keep short notes.

Everyday science: the human body, vitamins and diseases, basic units, light, sound and electricity, common gases, and the solar system.

Quantitative aptitude: percentages, ratios, averages, profit and loss, speed and distance, and simple number series. Practise without a calculator.

Computer: basic hardware and software, memory units, common file types, and the main uses, menus and keyboard shortcuts of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Learn simple Excel functions such as SUM, AVERAGE, MAX and MIN.

Urdu and English comprehension: reading a passage and answering questions about it, plus synonyms, antonyms, idioms and sentence correction in both languages. Comprehension rewards regular reading more than memorising.

How to apply (based on the last recruitment)

This is how the December 2023 recruitment worked. The 2026 method may be different, so follow the new advertisement.

  1. The application form was downloaded from the Punjab Police website, punjabpolice.gov.pk.
  2. The filled form, with attested copies of educational certificates, domicile, CNIC and passport-size photographs, and a fee of Rs. 500, was submitted to the relevant regional Special Branch office.
  3. Applications were accepted for about two weeks, from 5 to 20 December 2023.
  4. The Special Branch had regional offices for Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.
  5. Government employees applied through proper channel.

The advertisement also said that no person or organisation other than the Special Branch was authorised to distribute or receive application forms. Do not pay anyone who offers forms, "confirmed seats" or help with selection.

Get these ready now, so a short application window does not catch you out:

  • Intermediate result card and certificate (check that your division is second or higher)
  • Matric certificate (for date of birth)
  • Punjab domicile certificate
  • CNIC (check the expiry date)
  • Recent passport-size photographs
  • If you are a government employee, ask your office now about departmental permission (NOC)

If you are a graduate aged 21 to 25 who applied for Intelligence Officer, you may also be eligible for Intelligence Operator. Much of the written syllabus overlaps, so preparing for one helps with the other. For the officer test, see our PPSC Intelligence Officer Test 2026 preparation guide.

How to prepare while you wait

Advertisements like this often give only about two weeks to apply, and the running test can come soon after. Starting now gives you a clear advantage.

  • Start running this week. Fitness cannot be built in the two weeks after the advertisement appears. Follow the six-week plan above and repeat weeks 5 and 6 until the test.
  • Study one hour a day. Cover Pakistan affairs and Islamiat first, then computer and everyday science. Keep current affairs as a daily habit.
  • Practise comprehension. Read one English and one Urdu newspaper article daily and summarise each in three lines.
  • Prepare your documents. Fix any problem with your domicile, CNIC or certificates now, not during the application window.
  • Check your age. Work out your age on a likely closing date. If you are close to 25, this could be your last chance at this post.
  • Follow only official sources. The advertisement will appear in national newspapers and on punjabpolice.gov.pk. We will also add it to our jobs listings when it is published.
