Teaching Jobs in Pakistan

School teaching posts are advertised by the provincial school education departments, and the route depends on the province. Punjab fills most regular teaching cadres through the Punjab Public Service Commission. Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan more often use a testing service to screen candidates before the department appoints them. College and university teaching is separate again: Lecturer and Assistant Professor vacancies go through a public service commission or the institution's own selection board.

Qualifications are tied to the level taught. School cadres normally require a subject degree together with a professional teaching qualification such as a B.Ed or an Associate Degree in Education. Lecturer posts usually ask for a Master's or MPhil in the relevant subject with a minimum division, and university teaching follows the Higher Education Commission's criteria, where a PhD is expected for the senior and tenure-track grades. Some posts are reserved by gender, and the advertisement says so where they are.

Most recruitment turns on a written objective paper, sometimes with subject-specific weighting, followed by an interview and a published merit list. Pay runs from the middle Basic Pay Scales for school cadres up to BPS-17 for a Lecturer, and above that for Assistant Professor and beyond. Age limits, relaxation and domicile conditions differ between provinces and even between cadres inside one advertisement, so check the conditions attached to the specific post rather than the department.
