Agriculture Jobs in Pakistan

How agriculture and livestock posts are filled

Agriculture vacancies come from the provincial agriculture departments, the livestock and dairy development departments, irrigation and on-farm water management wings, agricultural research institutes, and the public agricultural universities. Officer cadres are typically filled through a public service commission, while field and extension staff are more often recruited directly by the department, frequently against district-wise vacancies so that staff are posted in the area they come from.

Officer posts such as Agriculture Officer normally require a four-year BSc (Hons) in Agriculture in the relevant major - agronomy, plant protection, soil science, horticulture or entomology - from an HEC-recognised university. Field Assistant and extension cadres usually ask for Intermediate in agriculture or a diploma. Veterinary Officer posts require a DVM degree together with registration with the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council, and some research cadres add an MPhil or PhD.

Selection for officer grades is usually a written objective paper on the subject followed by an interview; field cadres are more often decided on academic merit with an interview. Officer posts sit at BPS-17 and above, with field and extension cadres in the middle scales. A good number of agriculture vacancies are created under donor-funded or development projects and carry a fixed contract term on a project pay scale rather than a permanent appointment.
