Nursing Jobs in Pakistan

Nursing vacancies are advertised by the provincial health departments, by teaching hospitals and medical institutes, and by autonomous health bodies and nursing schools. Hospitals frequently recruit directly for their own wards, so the same cadre can appear under a health department in one advertisement and under a named institute in another. A significant share of posts are offered on contract before being regularised, and the advertisement will say which terms apply.

The two routes in are a three-year Diploma in General Nursing, usually with a midwifery qualification alongside it, or a four-year BS Nursing degree, including the post-RN route for diploma holders. Either way, current registration with the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council is required and is checked at scrutiny rather than taken on trust. Senior cadres such as Head Nurse, Nursing Instructor and Nursing Superintendent add years of clinical experience, and teaching posts in nursing schools may require a Master's.

Selection is usually decided on academic merit and experience with an interview, though some provinces route candidates through a screening test first. Staff Nurse posts sit in the middle Basic Pay Scales, with supervisory and instructor cadres above them, plus health and ward allowances that vary by institution. Many posts are reserved for women, though male nurses are recruited to a growing number of cadres - the advertisement is explicit about which, and about the district or provincial domicile it requires.
