Khyber Pakhtunkhwa advertises across the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, higher education, the health department and its teaching hospitals, police and home, local government, irrigation, agriculture and the works departments, along with universities, development authorities and programme offices. The province also runs a substantial reconstruction and development portfolio, so a share of vacancies sit inside project offices rather than line departments.

Regular posts from the middle grades upward go through the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission. For posts recruited directly by departments, the screening test is very often conducted by the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency, which handles a large share of the province's recruitment and admission testing and publishes its own roll number slips and results. Project posts are advertised by the office running the programme, on contract terms.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa domicile is required for almost every provincial post, and district quotas apply widely. The merged districts of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas carry their own allocation in many advertisements, so the district named on your domicile certificate can determine which seats you are competing for. Age limits are counted on the closing date, with relaxation only where the provincial rules allow, and both are stated on each advertisement.
