How recruitment works in Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit-Baltistan has its own government and administrative structure, and vacancies are advertised by the GB education, health, home and police, works, agriculture and forest departments, by the Karakoram International University and GB medical and educational institutions, and by GB authorities and development programmes. Because the region is small and mountainous, many posts are tied to a specific district or valley and intended to be filled locally.

Regular posts from the middle grades upward go through the Gilgit-Baltistan Public Service Commission, which advertises on behalf of GB departments. Departments recruit directly for lower grades and for posts created under development schemes, and a number of vacancies sit inside donor-funded or federal programmes operating in the region. Qualifications follow national norms, including HEC recognition and professional council registration where a cadre requires it.

Gilgit-Baltistan domicile is required for almost all regional posts, and district quotas are applied closely given how the population is distributed. A share of GB seats is also reserved in federal recruitment, which is a separate route with its own application process. Hard-area and remote-posting allowances attach to some posts and are stated in the advertisement. Age limits are counted on the closing date, with relaxation only where GB rules provide for it.
