Civil Engineer
Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Lahore • via PPSC
13 vacancies open for applications. Assistant Engineer, Sub Engineer, Surveyor and technical posts.
Engineering vacancies come from the works and infrastructure departments - Communication and Works, Irrigation, Public Health Engineering and Highways - along with WAPDA and the power distribution companies, development authorities, water and sanitation agencies, municipal and waste management companies, and the engineering wings of universities and hospitals. Graduate cadres are usually filled through a public service commission; diploma cadres and project posts are more often recruited directly.
Assistant Engineer and equivalent posts require a BE or BSc in the relevant engineering discipline together with registration with the Pakistan Engineering Council, which is checked at scrutiny and not waived. Sub-Engineer and Associate Engineer posts are filled by holders of a three-year Diploma of Associate Engineering in the matching technology. Senior and specialist posts add years of documented project experience, and some ask for an MSc or a professional certification.
Selection for graduate cadres is usually a written objective paper on the discipline followed by an interview; diploma cadres are more often decided on academic merit with a practical or interview stage. Assistant Engineer posts sit at BPS-17 with the sub-engineer cadres in the middle scales. A large share of engineering work is advertised under development schemes on project pay scales with fixed contract terms, so read the terms of appointment as carefully as the grade.
