NCCIA Inspector and Assistant Director Jobs 2026: Eligibility, Syllabus and Preparation
Last updated · By Faaiz Mahmood
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is expected to recruit Inspectors (BS-16) and Assistant Directors (BS-17) through the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC). As of 30 October 2026, FPSC has not published the advertisement. These are among the most awaited federal jobs of the year, and the test rules that will apply are already known.
This guide separates what is confirmed from what is only expected. It covers the reported number of posts, the likely eligibility, FPSC's 2026 test and interview rules, what to study, and a preparation plan you can start now.
Latest update
- Advertisement: Not published as of 30 October 2026. FPSC's Jobs page showed no active general recruitment advertisement on that date.
- Expected route: FPSC. Many preparation academies say the posts will appear in FPSC's next consolidated advertisement (No. 4/2026), and some expect it in November 2026. FPSC has not confirmed either point.
- Reported posts: 133 Inspector posts and 31 Assistant Director (Investigation) posts, with a smaller number of Assistant Director posts in legal, forensic and other fields.
We will update this page on the day FPSC publishes the advertisement.
What is confirmed and what is not
| Detail | Status |
|---|---|
| NCCIA plans to fill Inspector and Assistant Director posts | Reported in NCCIA's request for new posts; numbers may change |
| Recruitment through FPSC | Expected, not yet confirmed by FPSC |
| Advertisement date | Not announced |
| Qualification, age and physical standards | Not announced; see expected eligibility below |
| Test format for BS-16 and BS-17 posts | Confirmed by FPSC's instructions (updated 12 August 2026) |
| Interview pass marks and final merit rule | Confirmed by FPSC's instructions |
| Fee for BS-16 and BS-17 | Confirmed: Rs. 600 |
The test rules are the most useful part right now. They apply to all FPSC posts in BS-16 and BS-17, so you can prepare for the paper before the advertisement appears.
About NCCIA
NCCIA is Pakistan's federal agency for cybercrime. It was set up in 2024 to take over the work of the FIA's Cyber Crime Wing, and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Act 2025 gave it a clear legal basis. It works under the Ministry of Interior.
Its cases include online financial fraud, fake investment schemes, hacking, harassment and blackmail on social media, identity theft and illegal call centres. An Inspector usually works on investigations in the field. An Assistant Director is an officer who supervises investigations and manages cases.
NCCIA's first big recruitment drive in August 2026 (351 posts, including Sub Inspector, ASI and Constable) was run by NPF-TAS. For that drive, see our NCCIA Jobs 2026 guide.
How many posts are expected?
According to the posts NCCIA asked the government for, these are the officer-level numbers being discussed:
| Post | Scale | Reported posts |
|---|---|---|
| Inspector | BS-16 | 133 |
| Assistant Director (Investigation) | BS-17 | 31 |
| Assistant Director (Legal, Forensic and other fields) | BS-17 | about 19 |
These figures come from NCCIA's proposal and from reports by preparation academies, not from an FPSC advertisement. FPSC advertises only the posts that the department formally sends to it, so the final numbers may be lower or split differently across provincial quotas.
Expected eligibility
The official eligibility will be in the FPSC advertisement. Until then, the best guide is how FPSC advertised similar posts in 2026 under the Ministry of Interior:
| Similar post in FPSC Consolidated Advertisement No. 3/2026 | Qualification |
|---|---|
| Inspector (BS-16), Islamabad Capital Territory Police | Second Class or Grade C Master's, BS or Bachelor's (16 years of education) in any discipline |
| Assistant Director (Legal) (BS-17), FIA | Second Class or Grade C LLB, plus 2 years of post-qualification experience in legal practice or prosecution |
Based on this, expect:
- Inspector (BS-16): a Second Class or Grade C degree. FPSC has asked for 16 years of education for similar Inspector posts in 2026, though some earlier Inspector posts accepted a 14-year Bachelor's degree. NCCIA may prefer or require computer science, IT or a related field for some posts.
- Assistant Director (Investigation) (BS-17): at least a Second Class or Grade C Bachelor's or Master's degree (16 years). A computing, IT, cybersecurity or law background is likely to be preferred.
- Assistant Director (Legal, Forensic and others): a degree in the relevant field (LLB, digital forensics, computer science and similar), often with post-qualification experience.
Age. FPSC age limits are set post by post, and many BS-16 and BS-17 posts fall around 20 or 21 to 28 or 30 years. FPSC also allows these confirmed relaxations on top of the advertised limit:
- 5 years of general relaxation for everyone
- 10 years for serving government employees (including contract employees) with 2 years' continuous service on the closing date, up to age 55
- 15 years, or the years actually served, whichever is less, for retired or released armed forces personnel
- 5 years for the widow, son or daughter of a federal civil servant who died in service
- 3 years for candidates from Scheduled Castes, Buddhist communities, recognised tribes of tribal areas, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan
You can claim only one of the special categories, plus the 5-year general relaxation. Age is counted on the closing date.
Physical standards. Inspector posts in police-type agencies usually have minimum height and chest standards. FIA's own rules have set standards for its Inspectors, and NCCIA's Sub Inspector and ASI candidates in 2026 had to pass physical measurements. Wait for the advertisement before assuming you qualify or do not qualify.
Domicile. FPSC posts are filled under the federal quota system. Seats are given on the basis of your own domicile certificate (not your father's or husband's), and you must produce it at document verification.
Use our Age Relaxation Calculator as soon as the age limit and closing date are known.
FPSC test rules for BS-16 and BS-17 (confirmed)
These rules are in FPSC's General Instructions to Candidates, updated on 12 August 2026. They apply to every post in BS-16 and BS-17, so they will apply to NCCIA Inspector and Assistant Director posts advertised through FPSC.
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Paper | One MCQ paper |
| Marks | 100 |
| Time | 100 minutes |
| Pass mark | 40% |
| Negative marking | 0.25 marks for each wrong answer |
| Language | English, unless the advertisement says otherwise |
| Rechecking | Not allowed |
If FPSC receives more than 20,000 applications for a post, it can hold the test in batches, with different papers of the same difficulty.
What negative marking means for you. Four wrong answers cancel one right answer. If you answer 70 correctly and 20 wrongly, your score is 70 minus 5, which is 65. Leave a question blank only if you cannot rule out any option. If you can eliminate even one option, answering is worth it on average.
Time. 100 questions in 100 minutes gives you one minute per question. That is enough if you do not get stuck on a few hard ones.
Expected syllabus
FPSC publishes the syllabus for each post with its advertisement. In its 2026 advertisements, most BS-16 and BS-17 posts have used this structure inside the 100 marks:
| Part | Marks | What it usually covers |
|---|---|---|
| English | 20 | Vocabulary, grammar usage, sentence structuring |
| General Intelligence or Professional Test | 80 | Depends on the post |
For similar posts in 2026:
- ICT Police Inspector (BS-16): the 80-mark part covered basic arithmetic, algebra, ratios, percentages, averages, current affairs, Pakistan affairs, security measures for law and order, and watch and ward duties.
- FIA Assistant Director (Legal) (BS-17): the 80-mark part covered criminal procedure, the Qanun-e-Shahadat Order 1984, the Pakistan Penal Code, the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2010, cyber security and the FIA Act 1974.
So for NCCIA, expect a 20-mark English section and an 80-mark section mixing general intelligence with job-related topics. Because this is a cybercrime agency, those topics are likely to include cybercrime law and IT basics.
What to study
Start with what is certain (English and general intelligence), then add the cyber and law topics.
English (20 marks)
- Synonyms and antonyms of common exam words
- Correct use of tenses, prepositions and articles
- Sentence correction and choosing the correctly structured sentence
- Idioms and their meanings
English is the most predictable part of every FPSC paper. Twenty minutes a day for six weeks makes a clear difference.
General intelligence
- Quantitative ability: percentages, ratios, averages, simple algebra, profit and loss, speed and distance. Practise without a calculator.
- Pakistan affairs: constitutional history, the 1973 Constitution and major amendments, geography, and key institutions.
- Current affairs: national and international events of the last 1 to 2 years, Pakistan's foreign relations, and recent laws and appointments.
- General knowledge and everyday science: basic science, international organisations, important dates.
Cybercrime law
- What NCCIA does, and how it differs from the FIA
- The Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 and its 2025 amendment: the main offences, such as unauthorised access to systems and data, electronic fraud and forgery, identity misuse, cyberstalking and harassment, and spreading intimate images without consent
- Basic criminal law: the Pakistan Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure (FIR, arrest, investigation, challan) and the Qanun-e-Shahadat Order 1984 (evidence)
- Basics of anti-money laundering, because a lot of cyber fraud involves moving money
IT and cyber basics
- Networks: IP address, router, LAN and WAN, DNS, HTTP and HTTPS, VPN
- Security: malware, ransomware, phishing, social engineering, firewalls, encryption, two-factor authentication
- Digital evidence: what metadata is, what a hash value proves, and why chain of custody matters
- Common frauds in Pakistan: fake investment apps, SIM swap fraud, fake bank calls, and social media account takeovers
- MS Office and everyday computer use
If you are applying for a specialist Assistant Director post (legal, forensic, software or networks), the 80-mark part will probably be a professional test in your own field. Revise your degree subjects.
Interview and final merit
These rules are also from FPSC's 2026 instructions.
Who gets called. For BS-16 and BS-17 posts, FPSC shortlists 5 candidates per post for merit quota seats. For provincial or regional quota seats, it calls 5 per post if two or fewer posts are advertised and 3 per post if more than two. Documents are checked one day before the interview.
Interview marks. The interview is marked out of 200, and you need 101 to pass it.
Final merit. FPSC's rule is that final merit is based on the total of your written test and interview marks. With the test out of 100 and the interview out of 200, the interview carries a large share of the result. A strong test score gets you to the interview, but the interview usually decides who is selected.
If marks are tied, FPSC breaks the tie in this order: higher interview marks, then older age, then MPhil or PhD where a Master's is the minimum, then a higher grade in the minimum qualification, then earlier completion of that qualification.
What the panel asks. FPSC says candidates should know about their own qualification, Islam (not asked of non-Muslim candidates), Pakistan and general knowledge, and should read the job description. For NCCIA, expect questions on why you want to work on cybercrime, how a common online fraud works, what you would do first in a complaint about a hacked account, and the basics of PECA.
How to apply through FPSC
When the advertisement appears, FPSC's usual process is:
- Create an account and apply online at fpsc.gov.pk.
- Pay the fee of Rs. 600 (for BS-16 and BS-17) through a PSID using 1Link: ATM, mobile banking, internet banking or over the counter. Old challans, bank drafts and cheques are not accepted.
- You can edit your online application once before the closing date.
- Government employees must get departmental permission (DPC or NOC) before applying, and enter its reference number and date in the online form. Without it, FPSC cancels the application and no admission certificate is issued.
- Download your admission certificate from the FPSC website before the test.
Get these documents ready now: degrees and result cards, matric certificate (proof of date of birth), your own domicile certificate, CNIC, photographs, experience certificates in FPSC's format if the post needs experience, and your DPC if you are in government service. Our Document Checklist helps you prepare them.
An eight-week preparation plan
The advertisement usually gives a few weeks to apply, and the test comes later. Starting now gives you time to cover everything.
| Week | Focus | Daily habit |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | English grammar and vocabulary | 20 English MCQs, 20 minutes of current affairs |
| 2 | Quantitative ability | Same, plus 15 maths questions |
| 3 | Pakistan affairs and the Constitution | Same |
| 4 | Cybercrime law: PECA and NCCIA | Same |
| 5 | Criminal law basics: PPC, CrPC, Qanun-e-Shahadat | Same |
| 6 | IT, networks and cybersecurity terms | Same |
| 7 | Revision and weak areas | One timed 100-question test every two days |
| 8 | Full practice tests | One 100-question test in 100 minutes daily, with negative marking |
Three habits that help most:
- Mark your practice tests with negative marking. Learn when to leave a question.
- Keep an error notebook. Write down every question you got wrong and revise it weekly.
- Prepare for the interview early. Write and practise short answers about yourself, why you want this job and how common cyber frauds work. The interview counts for a lot in this recruitment.
