What an NTS test is, and what it is not

The National Testing Service is a testing organisation, not a recruiting authority, and it is not a government department. It conducts screening tests on behalf of departments, authorities and universities that do not run their own. That distinction matters: NTS administers the test, marks it and publishes the result, but the appointment is made by the organisation that advertised the post, against its own criteria and its own merit list.

Alongside recruitment screening it runs standardised tests used for other purposes - the National Aptitude Test for university admissions and the Graduate Assessment Test used for postgraduate admission and scholarship eligibility. A candidate applying for a government post through NTS normally registers on the NTS website for that specific project, pays a test fee, and downloads a roll number slip giving the test centre and time.

Test content follows the pattern published in the advertisement or the candidate information bulletin for that project, usually a mix of subject knowledge, English, general knowledge and analytical reasoning. Results and answer keys are published on the NTS website, and shortlisted candidates go on to an interview with the recruiting organisation. Because NTS is a private body, be careful with anything claiming to sell guaranteed results or appointments in its name - no genuine testing service works that way.
