The date your age is counted on
31 December of the year before the examination (31-12-2026 for CE-2027).
An upper limit of N years means you must not have reached your Nth birthday on the date age is counted. Turning N on that very date makes you over-age by one day.
General age relaxation
There is none: the rules forbid any relaxation other than the 2 years below. The age limit is 21 to 30.
Age relaxations under the CSS rules
At most one 2-year concession, never two together, and no general relaxation.
- Scheduled Caste and Buddhist candidates: 2 years. Proof: Certificate from the Deputy Commissioner.
- Members of the recognised tribes of Balochistan, the tribal areas of D.I. Khan and Peshawar divisions, the former Baloch areas of D.G. Khan and Rajanpur, the former tribal areas of Mardan and Hazara, and Upper Tanawal: 2 years.
- Permanent residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 2 years.
- Permanent residents of Gilgit-Baltistan: 2 years.
- Candidates with disabilities: 2 years. Proof: Disability certificate.
- Government servants, Armed Forces personnel and contract employees (including AJK government servants): 2 years. Two years' continuous service on the cut-off date; extraordinary leave does not count. Not for employees of banks, the State Bank, WAPDA, regulators or autonomous bodies. Proof: Departmental Permission Certificate.
Also worth knowing
- A reported 2025 proposal to raise the limit to 35 is not in FPSC's notice for CE-2027.
How it works
- Enter your date of birth. The cut-off date is 31 December of the year before the examination - 31 December 2026 for CSS 2027.
- The limit is 21 to 30 years. There is no general relaxation for CSS.
- Tick a relaxation if one applies to you: 2 years, and only one of them.
- You see your exact age on the cut-off date and each step of the working.
Common mistakes
- Counting your age on the day the advertisement was published. Age is reckoned on the closing date for applications unless the advertisement names another date.
- Using a different date of birth from the one on your Matric certificate and CNIC. Recruiters go by your documents; if they differ, sort that out first.
- Adding the general relaxation yourself when the advertisement says the age limit already includes it. It is then counted only once.
- Assuming a relaxation applies without the proof. A relaxation that is not proved with the document the advertisement asks for is refused at scrutiny.
