The date your age is counted on

The closing date of the advertisement.

An upper limit of N years means you must not have reached your Nth birthday on the date age is counted. Turning N on that very date makes you over-age by one day.

General age relaxation

SPSC adverts print the base age range (for example 21-28) with a separate note that the general relaxation applies, so it is added on top. The across-the-board relaxation is 5 years under the notification of 06-03-2025; it does not apply to the police or the combined competitive examination.

Age relaxations under Sindh rules

The rules do not say how individual relaxations combine; SPSC needs an age relaxation order for any over-age candidate.

  • Every candidate (not the police or the combined competitive examination): 5 years. Under SGA&CD notification SOII(SGA&CD)5-64/2011 (Part-II) of 06-03-2025, as cited in SPSC adverts. Reported to run until 31-12-2026 - not confirmed.
  • For the combined competitive examination (BS-17): government servants with two years' continuous service, and persons with disabilities: 2 years (only for Combined competitive examination only).
  • Government servants (other recruitment): up to 5 years (not automatic). Two years' continuous service. Granted by the Administrative Department.
  • The widow, son or daughter of a civil servant who died in service: up to 5 years (not automatic). Granted by the Administrative Department.
  • Persons with disabilities, widows and divorced women: up to 5 years (not automatic). Granted by the department. Proof: The husband's death certificate or the divorce certificate; a disability certificate.
  • Any candidate with strong reasons (illness, death of a parent or spouse, a calamity, a ban on recruitment): up to 5 years (not automatic). Up to 2 years from the Administrative Department, up to 5 from SGA&CD, after a committee looks at the case. Must be asked for before applying.

Also worth knowing

  • The 2024 rules replaced all earlier Sindh instructions from 01-01-2025.
  • Candidates of the Sindh Teachers' screening tests (STS) have their own relaxation: 15 years for tests applied for before 16-10-2024, 5 years after.

Not confirmed from an official source

We could not confirm these from an official document, so the calculator does not rely on them. Check the advertisement.

  • The text of the 06-03-2025 notification itself was not read; the 5 years comes from an official SGA&CD letter.
  • Its end date of 31-12-2026 is from news reports only.

How it works

  1. Enter your date of birth and the closing date of the SPSC advertisement.
  2. Enter the age range the advertisement prints. SPSC adverts print the base range and say separately that the general relaxation applies.
  3. Tick any relaxation that applies to you. Most Sindh relaxations other than the general one are granted by the department, case by case.
  4. You see your exact age on the closing date and each step of the working.

Common mistakes

  • Counting your age on the day the advertisement was published. Age is reckoned on the closing date for applications unless the advertisement names another date.
  • Using a different date of birth from the one on your Matric certificate and CNIC. Recruiters go by your documents; if they differ, sort that out first.
  • Adding the general relaxation yourself when the advertisement says the age limit already includes it. It is then counted only once.
  • Assuming a relaxation applies without the proof. A relaxation that is not proved with the document the advertisement asks for is refused at scrutiny.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sindh give general age relaxation?

SPSC advertisements say it applies on top of the printed range: 5 years under the SGA&CD notification of 06-03-2025, not for the police or the combined competitive examination. Its end date is not confirmed from an official source, so check the advertisement.

Can I ask for more relaxation?

Under the Sindh rules of 2024, individual relaxation of up to 2 years (from the Administrative Department) or up to 5 years (from SGA&CD) can be granted for strong reasons, and must be asked for before you apply. SPSC asks for an age relaxation order for any over-age candidate.
