The date your age is counted on

The closing date for applications; for recruitment by written examination, 1 January of the examination year.

An upper limit of N years means you must not have reached your Nth birthday on the date age is counted. Turning N on that very date makes you over-age by one day.

General age relaxation

PPSC adverts print it in the limit itself, for example '30 to 45 + 05 = 50 years' for men and '+ 08 = 53' for women. It is never added on top of a figure that already shows it, and it does not apply to the combined competitive (PMS) examination.

Age relaxations under Punjab rules

The general relaxation combines with the other relaxations.

  • Men and transgender candidates: 5 years. Women: 8 years.: 5 years (8 years for women) (not automatic). Women get 8 years instead of 5. Only when the advert prints it. Not for the combined competitive (PMS) examination, and not for the police.
  • Punjab government servants: years of service taken off your age. The period of continuous service is taken off your age. Federal, semi-government, autonomous and local-body service does not count. For the PMS examination the upper limit is 35 at most. Proof: Departmental permission certificate.
  • Former members of the defence forces: years of service taken off your age (at most 10 years). Service is taken off your age, 10 years at most.
  • Persons with disabilities: 15 years. 15 years since the notification of 02-02-2021 (it was 10). Proof: Disability certificate from the Punjab Council for the Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons.
  • Persons whose service was terminated for want of a vacancy: years of service taken off your age. The period of service is taken off your age.
  • Employees of the Afghan Refugees Organisation who are bona fide residents of Punjab: years of service taken off your age (at most 10 years). Service is taken off your age, 10 years at most.
  • Ad-hoc employees of the Punjab government: years of service taken off your age. Continuous ad-hoc service is taken off your age. Not for the combined competitive examination or Civil Judge posts. Proof: Certificate from the appointing authority.

No longer in force

Kept here because they still appear in old advertisements and guides.

  • Every candidate, for posts advertised in 2022 (not the police): 2 years. Only 01-01-2022 to 31-12-2022. Lapsed. Valid 2022-01-01 to 2022-12-31.

Also worth knowing

  • For the PMS examination, federal officials with a Punjab domicile and Punjab officials with at least 4 years' service have an upper limit of 35.

Not confirmed from an official source

We could not confirm these from an official document, so the calculator does not rely on them. Check the advertisement.

  • A reported 2-year relaxation for PMS (BS-17) in 2026-27 (upper limit 32), said to be dated August 2026 and possibly replaced on 02-10-2026: found only in news reports, not on S&GAD or PPSC.

How it works

  1. Enter your date of birth and the closing date - or 1 January of the examination year, when the post is filled by written examination.
  2. Enter the upper age limit from the advertisement. PPSC adverts usually print it with the general relaxation already added ("30 to 45 + 05 = 50 years").
  3. Tick any relaxation that applies to you.
  4. PPSC counts completed years, months and days plus one day for the day of birth: turning the limit on the counting date is over-age by one day, and the result says so.

Common mistakes

  • Counting your age on the day the advertisement was published. Age is reckoned on the closing date for applications unless the advertisement names another date.
  • Using a different date of birth from the one on your Matric certificate and CNIC. Recruiters go by your documents; if they differ, sort that out first.
  • Adding the general relaxation yourself when the advertisement says the age limit already includes it. It is then counted only once.
  • Assuming a relaxation applies without the proof. A relaxation that is not proved with the document the advertisement asks for is refused at scrutiny.

Frequently asked questions

On which date does PPSC count age?

On the last date for applications. For recruitment by written examination, on 1 January of the year of the examination. PPSC adds one day for the day of birth, so a candidate who turns the upper limit on that date is over-age by one day.

How much general age relaxation does Punjab give?

5 years for men and transgender candidates and 8 years for women, when the advertisement prints it. It does not apply to the combined competitive (PMS) examination or to the police.

How does relaxation work for Punjab government employees?

The period of their continuous service in the Punjab government is taken off their age. Federal, semi-government, autonomous and local-body service does not count. For the PMS examination the upper limit is 35 at most.
