Attested Copies for Government Jobs: Who Attests and How Many

An attested copy is a photocopy an officer has signed and stamped to say it is a true copy of the original. Who may sign it, and how many sets you need, depend on the commission - and none of it is the same as HEC attestation.

Who can attest

Only some commissions say:

  • SPSC: an officer of BPS-17 or above.
  • BPSC: a gazetted officer, on a set that has also been verified by the issuing board or university.
  • FPSC: the attesting officer's signature and a stamp showing the officer's name; no grade is named.
  • IBCC, for its own equivalence applications, asks for copies attested by a government officer of grade 17 or above.
  • PPSC, KPPSC and AJK PSC do not say. KPPSC also accepts unattested copies with a certificate or affidavit that they are genuine.

How many sets

  • FPSC: two attested sets with the originals, at the verification a day before the interview.
  • PPSC: two sets of photocopies with the originals at the interview (posts up to BS-18); two attested sets by the closing date for BS-19 and BS-20.
  • SPSC: one set attested by a BPS-17 officer at the interview, after uploading scans with the application.
  • KPPSC: attested copies with the Documents Submission Proforma, within 15 days of passing the test.
  • BPSC: one verified and attested set within 10 days of passing the test.
  • AJK PSC: attested copies before the interview, then the originals with one set a day before it.

Make copies that match

FPSC lists "variance in original documents and their photocopies" as a reason for rejection, and SPSC's staff compare every original with its copy at the interview. Copy from the original you will bring, after any correction, and check each copy before it is attested. None of the rules we read gives an attested copy an expiry date; what matters is that it matches the original.

HEC attestation is a different thing

HEC attestation authenticates a degree itself. HEC says it has no role in recruitment, and FPSC and PPSC ask for an HEC equivalence certificate only where you claim equivalence - not for HEC-attested degrees. Get HEC attestation only if your advertisement asks for it.

  • Since 11 May 2026 it is done online only, at eservices.hec.gov.pk, for Rs 3,000 a document; HEC publishes no processing time.
  • Your name, father's name and date of birth must be identical on the CNIC and every document, or HEC will not start.
  • HEC does not attest Matric or Intermediate certificates - IBCC does - and never attests a foreign degree itself, only its own equivalence letter.

How it works

  1. Choose who is recruiting - FPSC, PPSC, KPPSC, SPSC, BPSC, AJK PSC, a testing service or a department - and the kind of post.
  2. Answer short questions about your domicile, government service, qualification, experience and any quota. Each is a tap, and nothing leaves your device.
  3. You get your own list - every document, original or copy, and how many copies this body asks for - to tick off, print or save as a PDF.
  4. Above it are the risks in your answers: red for a listed reason to reject, amber to check, green to have ready - each with what to do and the official rule.

Common mistakes

  • Attesting copies yourself for FPSC, which wants an officer's signature and name stamp.
  • Copies without the officer's name visible on the stamp.
  • Paying for HEC attestation that the advertisement never asked for, while the copies it did ask for are not ready.
  • Copying an older version of a corrected document.

Frequently asked questions

Who can attest documents in Pakistan for a government job?

Where a commission says, it is an officer: BPS-17 or above for SPSC, a gazetted officer for BPSC, and for FPSC an officer whose signature and name stamp are on the copy. A serving BPS-17 or higher officer with a name stamp meets all of these.

Can a grade 16 officer attest documents?

Not for SPSC, which names BPS-17 or above. FPSC names no grade but wants the officer's name stamp; to be safe for every body, use a BPS-17 or higher officer.

Can I self-attest copies?

Not for FPSC, which wants the attesting officer's signature and name stamp. KPPSC accepts unattested copies with a certificate or affidavit that they are genuine.

Does the officer's name have to be on the stamp?

For FPSC, yes: it asks for the attesting officer's signature and a stamp showing the officer's name. Check that the stamp shows a name, not only a designation.

Is HEC attestation required for government jobs?

Not by FPSC or PPSC, which ask only for an equivalence certificate where you claim equivalence. HEC says it has no role in recruitment; get its attestation only if your advertisement asks for it.

Attested copies kitne din ki hoti hain?

Jo qawaid hum ne parhe un mein attested copy ki koi mudat muqarrar nahi. Ahem yeh hai ke copy asal document se bilkul milti ho.
