Result Awaited: Can You Apply for a Government Job?

Usually not. The commissions judge your qualification as it stood on the closing date, and a result that had not been officially declared by then does not count - even if you pass. Here is each body's rule, which date matters, and what to keep as proof.

What each commission says

  • FPSC: applications from candidates whose results were not officially announced by the board or university on or before the closing date are not considered - one of its listed reasons for rejection.
  • PPSC: the qualification must be held on or before the closing date; an application whose result was not officially declared by then is not considered.
  • SPSC: applications whose results were not officially announced by the closing date are not entertained, and a withheld result still undecided on that date disqualifies.
  • BPSC: a candidate whose result was not officially declared by the closing date is not considered.
  • KPPSC: only the qualification possessed on the closing date counts.
  • AJK PSC: every condition must be met by the closing date, with the result date on the transcript as the date of completion.
  • Testing-service advertisements: you must be eligible in all respects by the last date.

Which date counts

The date the result was officially declared - not the date you sat the last paper, and not the date the degree was printed. FPSC and AJK PSC treat the result declaration date on the transcript as the date you completed the qualification, and FPSC's online form asks for it. SPSC wants a certificate from the Controller of Examinations giving the exact date the result was announced.

Your degree may come later, and that is fine: AJK PSC accepts a detailed marks certificate or a provisional certificate from the Controller of Examinations, and SPSC the marks sheet with the Controller's certificate that the degree is being processed - as long as the result itself was declared in time.

PPSC and BPSC count two degrees obtained in the same academic year as one.

Hope certificates and "result awaited" letters

None of the commission rules we read accepts a letter saying a result is expected in place of a declared result. What they accept is proof of when the result was declared. If an advertisement itself admits result-awaited candidates, its own condition applies to that post - read it word for word.

What to do instead

Apply on the qualification you already hold if the post accepts it, and keep the declared result's date ready. If the post needs the qualification you are waiting for, prepare now for the next advertisement: get the result notification or transcript as soon as it is out, and check your age against the next closing date.

How it works

  1. Choose who is recruiting - FPSC, PPSC, KPPSC, SPSC, BPSC, AJK PSC, a testing service or a department - and the kind of post.
  2. Answer short questions about your domicile, government service, qualification, experience and any quota. Each is a tap, and nothing leaves your device.
  3. You get your own list - every document, original or copy, and how many copies this body asks for - to tick off, print or save as a PDF.
  4. Above it are the risks in your answers: red for a listed reason to reject, amber to check, green to have ready - each with what to do and the official rule.

Common mistakes

  • Counting the date of the last exam paper instead of the date the result was declared.
  • Applying on a degree in progress and hoping the result comes before the test - it is the closing date that counts.
  • Assuming a passed result declared a week after the closing date will be accepted at the interview.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for a government job if my result is awaited?

Not for FPSC, PPSC, SPSC or BPSC - they do not consider an application whose result was not officially declared by the closing date. KPPSC counts only the qualification you held on that date.

Which date counts: the exam, the result or the degree?

The date the result was officially declared. FPSC and AJK PSC take the declaration date on your transcript as the date you completed the qualification.

Is a provisional certificate valid for government jobs?

If the result was declared by the closing date, yes for AJK PSC, which accepts a provisional certificate or detailed marks certificate from the Controller of Examinations; SPSC accepts the marks sheet with the Controller's certificate.

Does my degree have to be issued by the closing date?

No - the result has to be declared by then. AJK PSC accepts a provisional certificate or detailed marks certificate until the degree comes, and SPSC the marks sheet with the Controller of Examinations' certificate of the result date.

Result awaited ka matlab kya hai?

Iska matlab hai ke imtihan ho chuka hai magar natija abhi elaan nahi hua. Zyada tar commissions mein aakhri tareekh tak natija elaan na hua ho to darkhwast qubool nahi hoti.
